The Beginning of Something New

Updated: Aug 9

Waking up isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes it’s quiet - like a thought that keeps returning, or a subtle sense that something isn’t quite right. And sometimes, that quiet thought grows until you can’t ignore it anymore. For me, it was both. I was doing work I was good at, but deep down, I knew I was slowly outgrowing the box I had built for myself. Something in me was shifting - ready to break out of the comfortable.

The Life Before

I spent thirteen years as an elementary music teacher. I liked what I did. I loved the students, the rhythm, the fun and the learning. But I also began to notice how much of myself I had to set aside to stay in that role. I began seeing the limits everywhere - the curriculum, the calendar, the system.

Every time I reached for something more, I bumped into a wall. The comfortable life I had created as an Enneagram 9 was beginning to crack.

One day, in a counseling session, I said it out loud: “I need to quit my job.” I wasn’t burned out. I was waking up.

After that, one of the first things I did was enroll in a program I’d had my eye on for years - the CP Enneagram Academy with Beatrice Chestnut and Uranio Paes. Until that point, all of their courses were completely out of reach for me as a full-time teacher. Now, finally, I had the space to choose something for myself. It felt like coming home to who I really was.

While I was in that program, I started to look around for community and opportunities to make money at my hobby – the Enneagram. I searched for Enneagram organizations and training in Canada. I looked up the International Enneagram Association and thought, Surely there’s an Enneagram Canada… right?  But there wasn’t.

Looking Around, Looking Ahead

As this dream took shape, I started connecting with other Canadians on the same path. Every person I met knew another person doing Enneagram work in a different city or town across the country. And every person lit up at the idea of connecting with others “doing the work.”

It’s been meaningful to hear the stories of Enneagram Canada’s past - the conversations, the versions that were and almost were. I believe they were each part of the groundwork for now. Each one was a stepping stone. Each one held vision.

There’s a difference between chronos time - the ticking of the clock - and kairos time, the right time. And this feels like kairos. The right time, energy and momentum. We’re not beginning at the beginning - we’re continuing a story that’s already been unfolding.

In the ten months leading up to this moment, I’ve discovered more than 50 people doing deep, thoughtful Enneagram work across Canada and I know there are more.

What We’re Building

Enneagram Canada exists because we believe in the power of this work—not just individually, but collectively. As Gurdjieff said, “this work isn’t difficult to do alone, it’s impossible.” There is meaningful, grounded, and creative Enneagram work happening across this country. I believe it needs to be seen and it needs to be connected.

Too often, Canada is defined by what we’re not. We’re not the U.S. We’re not loud or trend-driven or easily swayed. But we are something and that something matters. Canada is home to intentional, community-rooted Enneagram practitioners doing powerful inner work. Enneagram Canada exists to bring those people and their wisdom, together.

Our vision is to create a space where a uniquely Canadian lens on the Enneagram can emerge. A place where curiosity is welcomed, differences are respected, and all paths of growth are invited in. Whether you’re using the Enneagram in organizations, in therapy, in your own quiet reflection, or in spiritual community - we want you here. This is not a one-size-fits-all space. This is a tapestry, woven with many threads.

In many ways, this isn’t just about building an association - it’s about waking something up. There’s a quiet undercurrent in Canada of people doing deep, meaningful work. The Enneagram has been moving beneath the surface, and now it’s time to bring it into the light. To name it. To connect it. To celebrate it.

We Need You

Here’s the truth: we’re just getting started. And we can’t do this without you.

We need people who are brand new to the Enneagram and want to learn. We need seasoned practitioners who’ve been holding this work quietly for years. We need facilitators, therapists, coaches, teachers, and curious humans. We need people who ask thoughtful questions. We need people who dream.

We’re building a community that reflects what we value: access, inclusivity, responsiveness. A place where everyone is welcome. If something doesn’t feel like it’s for you, we want to hear about it. If you’re not sure you belong, I promise, you do.

There’s a seat here for you. Come sit with us. Let’s keep waking up, together.
